Flower Essences and Relationship with Nature

Over the years I have come to realize that in my experience, the
flower essences are borne of the relationship I have with nature.
Years ago I read a book that greatly impacted me, called The
Findhorn Garden.

In this book Dorothy McLean develops her relationship with nature by
communicating with the nature spirits in the community garden near
Findhorn Village, in Scotland. The spirits of the plants began to
speak to her, which took her by surprise at first. Through her
consistent attunements with the garden beings she learned of
nature's wisdom; the garden vegetables and flowering plants grew to
astounding proportions due to the expanding relationship between
Dorothy and the nature spirits. The garden became a reflection this
relationship, its growth a celebration.

This book fascinated me, spoke to my heart and I felt compelled to
spend as much time as I could in developing my ability to listen to
the silent voices of nature. I took my journal with me wherever I
went; I sat in my garden asked questions and listened for the
answers. I sat next to the grand old spruce trees, and discovered
they could help me to expand my awareness. My ability to access the
wisdom of nature matured as I explored further. I found that the
trees helped to connect me with all they are connected with.

I learned to listen to the silence by letting the very quiet voice
of my intuition have expression through my pen and paper. I learned
that the flow of communication began by letting the first words
that came through just flow onto my paper, and when I did so the
rest followed effortlessly. If I stopped to examine the words with
my mind, I would stop the flow. I was opening more and more to my
intuition. I could feel the truth and wisdom as the words flowed
through me as though I had always known what I was writing about,
and yet had not previously contemplated. It was a fascinating
process and one I came to cherish.

I share a bit of my experience here because flower essences are so
much more than remedies for healing and transformation; they are
expressions of relationship with nature, they are invitations to
open to the magical realm of intuition which opens the door to
limitless possibilities and experiences that are wondrous and
connected with creation.

Orchid Growing Tip:

To grow an orchid or orchids successfully it is important to
cultivate the following mindset. "An orchid is not a plant."
This may seem like an odd way to think but as you learn more about
orchids and growing them you will come to understand the importance
of this idea.

Ask yourself this question, if you have been given and
orchid or seen an orchid with its roots crowded in a pot did you
think it ought to be repotted into something more spacious? Perhaps
you have even done the unthinkable such as I did when I was a teen;
my mother had been given a lovely blooming cattleya orchid once
when she had been ill. After it went out of bloom and had been around
the house for perhaps a year or more I thought I would be kind and
repot it for her. It had been growing in bark, I ever so lovingly
repotted the orchid in soil. She lamented when she saw what I had done,
and I was merely bewildered at her displeasure, after all plants like
fresh soil in their roomy new pots. It died. I thought I knew what it
needed because I thought of it as a regular plant, that was my
mistake.

I was thinking of the orchid as though it was one of my house plants.
Most orchids don't live in soil, although some do. Many orchids live
in trees in misty cloud forests where their roots are exposed to the
warm moist air. Bat droppings and falling leaves settle on their roots
until a heavy rain washes them off.

Remember these two things if you want to grow orchids:
Think of orchids as orchids and not as plants.
Each type of orchid has specific needs. Orchid are specific.

Orchids grow on every continent except the Antarctic.
Orchids that grow in Scotland also grow on Elesmere Island and in Alaska.
